Following this, he undertook orthopedic surgical training at McMaster University and specialized in complex adult spine surgery and pediatric scoliosis through a fellowship at the University of Toronto, where he served as Chief Fellow. To deepen his expertise, Dr. Oitment pursued a three-year clinical scholarship at McMaster University, earning a Master’s degree in Health Research Methodology with a focus on surgical research design pitfalls.

Dr. Oitment is deeply committed to the education and mentorship of the next generation of physicians. He plays an active role in the training of orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, and family medicine residents through structured, case-based teaching. He hosts weekly educational rounds that emphasize clinical reasoning, imaging interpretation, and evidence-based management strategies. Dr. Oitment is also closely involved in Royal College exam preparation for surgical trainees, providing high-yield sessions and individualized support to help residents achieve excellence in their certification exams.
