Resident Education
Dr. Oitment is deeply committed to advancing medical education, with a strong focus on orthopaedic spine care. He leads the orthopaedic-spine teaching program for the Department of Family Medicine at Scarborough General Hospital, delivering hands-on, clinically relevant instruction to medical trainees.
He also provides extensive teaching for orthopaedic surgery residents, including structured Royal College exam preparation and a longitudinal curriculum that spans the full breadth of spine pathology—degenerative disease, deformity, trauma principles, infection, tumor, congenital conditions, and complex decision-making. This teaching emphasizes practical frameworks, surgical indications, complication avoidance, and evidence-based management that translates directly to patient care.
In addition, Dr. Oitment is faculty with the Canadian Orthopaedic Review in Reconstructive (CORR) Surgery, contributing to high-yield resident education and examination readiness.
